Corian® is the registered brand name for a range of stylish solid surface worktops matching, and even outdoing, the sophisticated qualities and appearance of solid marble and granite. Corian was the world’s first man-made solid surface worktop, developed in the 1960s, the era of moon landings and the Beatles! All solid surface worktops were derived from that patent by DuPont, but thanks to the astonishing technological development of the 21st century, we produce far superior products today.

What is a Corian worktop made from?
Corian is manufactured from the highest quality natural minerals, including top grade marble and granite and other natural stone. For the more technically-minded, the raw minerals also include only the best quality Bauxite crystallites such as Gibbsite, Bayerite, Doyleite and Nordstrandite, which are sourced from the top quarries around the world. Bauxite is the main ore from which aluminium is extracted.

These minerals are pulverised and then, through a highly specialised process, are reconstituted and strengthened by adding acrylic polymer resin, giving it the same elegant appearance, but even greater flexibility, elasticity and resilience than natural marble or granite.
Corian consists of about 66% natural minerals and 34% acrylic polymer resin.

How does a Corian worktop differ from a Natural Stone worktop?
Corian worktops are solid, non-porous surfaces that emulate, and even improve, the natural beauty, quality and chic atmosphere of marble, granite or other polished stone.

In addition, it is available in a huge variety of colours and textures and can be shaped, engraved and seamlessly joined in ways not possible with the natural stone worktops. This provides far greater design possibilities, as well as a much greater degree of hygiene.

Because of its greater resilience and flexibility, it can be fitted in longer lengths than solid stone in its natural state. The manufacturing process makes Corian worktops much more resistant to scratches and stains they are therefore also easier to clean and repair than solid stone.

However, Corian can be used very effectively for virtually any other room as high-end wall cladding and even flooring, to either create the effect of marble or granite, or in a range of scores of different bright pigmented colours to emulate polished stone.

Because it is so easy to keep clean and to maintain high levels of hygiene, it is also frequently used in sensitive areas where germs can easily be spread, such as airport and hotel check-in counters.
