Reasons to Choose Corian

Corian worktops are increasing in popularity, and for good reason. Corian solid surface offers design versatility, functionality and durability. It is an incredibly solid material that is a very popular choice for kitchen worktops due to its durability and strength. Corian is made from 1/3 acrylic resin and 2/3 natural minerals, which together creates a very tough material.

If you are thinking of having new worktops installed in your home and are undecided about which material to choose, here are some of things you need to know about Corian worktops before making your choice…

Durability

Corian keeps it’s good looks and survives the impact nicks and cuts that can occur with daily wear and tear. Due to the way that Corian is constructed, it is strong and durable. Once the acrylic has set completely it develops an incredibly tough outer shell, which can withstand a lot of weight. Again, this robust reliability is brilliant when you consider what items you will need to keep on your kitchen counters, or if something should accidentally be dropped on them. It increases the longevity of your worktop.

Non-Porous

Corian solid surface is non-porous with a smooth, virtually seamless appearance. With proper maintenance, the material does not promote the growth of mould, mildew and bacteria. Its impermeability results in it being easy to maintain and highly resistant to staining. Corian® is a non-porous surface and this prevents dirt and stains from penetrating the material. Marks and stains stay on the surface but can easily be removed with a Scotchbrite®pad and household cleaner. However, we do recommend that spills should be cleaned up immediately after they occur.

Wide Array of Colours

Corian works with designers, artists, architects, and industry sector experts to offer the largest, most versatile selection of colours available in contemporary surfacing. With over 90 colours, we’re certain you’ll find the right colours for your design.

The refined colours of Corian allow for a creative and inspired working palette of solid, textured and translucent hues.

Corian Looks Amazing

There is a lot to say regarding Corian’s practical form and functional uses. Yet Corian is also a very attractive  solid surface material. It’s wide array of colours, textures and translucent hues contribute greatly to the aesthetic and eye-catching appeal of Corian and its diverse application. For example, Corian can be used as inlays, accents, or as a versatile compliment to other materials, such as stone, wood, metal, glass, etc.

Colours and textures run through the entire thickness of the material and cannot wear away, as it is a solid material and cannot delaminate. This ensures that Corian not only looks amazing but that it stays that way!

Seamless Joins

Pieces of Corian can be glued together inconspicuously to create a seamless look, giving virtually unlimited design possibilities for surfaces. This allows each worktop to be constructed from a single piece of Corian that will appear seamless when installed in place. On a practical note, this also radically improves the hygienic quality of Corian as it does not allow for liquids or other material to enter between the joins, where it could foster the growth of mould or bacteria, or lead to leaks reaching your cupboards.

Resistance

Corian is a solid, non-porous, homogeneous surfacing material. Since 1967 Corian has proved itself to be a remarkably durable material that is easy to live with. It does not delaminate and stands up well to daily use. It resists most of the impacts, nicks and cuts that occur in heavy traffic areas. Corian is very tough but knives will scratch it quite easily. Always use a protective layer, such as a chopping board, between knives and Corian. The physical properties of Corian mean that it can withstand both very high and low temperatures. However, it recommended that you avoid placing hot pots and pans directly onto your Corian worktop as it could get damaged. Following this guidance should ensure the longevity of your Corian kitchen worktop.

Repairable

Surfaces made from Corian are renewable, meaning that they can be fully restored with ordinary mild abrasive cleaners and a scouring pad. Small nicks and slight burns, for example, can be easily removed in this way. As Corian is workable in the same way as wood, damage caused by abuse can usually be repaired on site without having to completely replace the material.
